Fanø Shipsrum Spirits – a modern version of the 300-year-old ship tradition.

Since the 18th century, Spirits has been associated with the great sailing ships of the Caribbean and the harsh life that prevailed on board. Spirits was an important part of the ships’ provisions so that the sailors could endure the harsh conditions.

To make the spirits drinkable, local spices, fruits and molasses syrup were added. Hereafter the spirits was aged in oak barrels on board, which added additional flavor and taste.

Fanø Shipsrum Spirits is based on a spirit distilled in Jamaica and hereafter refined and aged on Fanø. The refinement consists of a two-step process of spicing and aging. First, we spice the spirit with natural spices and ingredients such as heather honey, sea buckthorn and Madagascar vanilla. Hereafter it is aged in oak barrels, which previously contained port.

The three variants The Siren, The Merman and Gunpowder 57 has won silver and bronze at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) in 2019 & 2020 in the category ‘Spiced Rum’.

The Siren: Sweet & Aromatic (alk. 41,5% vol)

The Seahorse: Extra Sweet (alk. 41,5% vol)

The Captain: Full & Complex (alk. 43% vol)

Gunpowder 57: Strong and Generous (alk. 57,2% vol)
